Dr Antony Underwood is a Consultant Paediatrician who is trained in anthroposophical medicine. This is an holistic approach to medicine, based on the works of Dr Rudolf Steiner. After completing his paediatric training in England, he travelled to Germany where he studied in a home for autistic and handicapped children. He further studied in a German hospital, which uses anthroposophic medicine and therapies.
Since establishing himself in private practice in Sydney, he has developed a special area of interest in autistic children. This involves the biomedical treatment of autism and recognises that many of these children have a biomedical block to their development.
This often involves the use of the casein and gluten free diet, specific gastrointestinal treatments aimed at optimising the correct balance of bowel flora. Specific biochemical testing can show imbalances in the zinc and copper imbalances, which are managed with specially compounded medicines.
