Dr Balkin is an Adult General Psychiatrist who has over 25 years’ experience working as a Medical Practitioner in mental health. He is committed to provision of high quality care for his patients.
Dr Balkin graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1991. He initially had a couple of years working in Rural and Remote Mental health services in Rockhampton and Cairns. He then successfully completed training in Psychiatry at Royal Brisbane Hospital and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2001. He also completed a Certificate of Advanced Training in Psychiatry of Old Age.
Dr Balkin has a wide range of experience across public and private mental health sectors. He has previously held public appointments as Staff Psychiatrist Logan-Beaudesert Mental Health Service, Clinical Director Beenleigh-Beaudesert Mental Health Service, Visiting Medical Officer in Psychiatry at Royal Brisbane Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Queensland.
Since 2005, he has focussed on full time Adult General private practice. His area of expertise includes treatment of patients with mood, anxiety and post trauma conditions. He has a special interest in assessment and management of mental health conditions affecting past and currently serving military personnel.
Dr Balkin incorporates best practice evidence based treatments in the management of his patients biological, psychological and social needs to achieve the best possible outcomes. He prides himself on being a good listener and effectively communicating with all relevant stakeholders including patients, their families, medical colleagues and staff.
