Annette completed a medical degree at Griffith Uni on the Gold Coast in 2011.

She moved to Townsville as an intern and worked at the Townsville Hospital for 5 years (mostly in the Emergency Department but also in orthopaedics, rural relieving, paediatrics, cardiothoracics and neurosurgery).

Annette’s main professional interest is sports medicine. She also has a personal interest in sport. She has been training in Shaolin Kung Fu for over 20yrs and has recklessly and opportunistically tried out various adventure and extreme sports while she was backpacking through various parts of the world.

Annette also has an interest in Indigenous Health and has done rural relieving on Palm Island. She will be doing a joint community project on exercise and sports medicine as prevention of chronic disease in Aboriginal youth next year through both TAIHS and Sports Clinic NQ.

Before becoming a doctor, Annette did an honours degree in English literature and then a PhD in Cultural studies. Her primary focus is social justice issues and addressing racism and social inequality.

Annette also has an interest in travel and adventure medicine. She has also travelled extensively in and around her PhD.

She has also worked as a graphic designer, an English teacher in Japan, a deckhand and cook on a yacht in the Caribbean as well as various retail and temping jobs to fund her passion for travelling.
