Dr Andrew Oar is a radiation oncologist at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast. He completed his postgraduate medical training at the University of Queensland in 2010 and subsequently completed a Masters of International Public Health (MIPH) in 2011. He completed the majority of his specialist training at Liverpool and Campbelltown Hospitals in Sydney. He underwent a fellowship in lung and gastrointestinal cancer as well as stereotactic radiation therapy. Dr Oar completed his specialist radiation oncology examinations in August 2016, and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in May 2018.
Dr Oar has presented his research work into pancreatic cancer and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at both national and international conferences. He is an executive member of the Asia Pacific Radiation Oncology Special Interest Group (APROSIG) and conjoint lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and University of Western Sydney (UWS).
He is currently the clinical research lead at Icon Cancer Centre Gold Coast and is actively involved in several clinical trials. He is the principal investigator of the MASTERPLAN trial, a national randomised trial investigating stereotactic radiation therapy treatment for pancreatic cancer. His areas of interest include gastrointestinal cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, genitourinary cancer, central nervous system (CNS) cancers as well as stereotactic radiation therapy.
