Associate Professor Andrew Block is an infectious diseases and general physician with qualifications in research, education and leadership.
He works at Monash Health and Monash University in a number of roles – Senior Consultant Physician (General Medicine and Infectious Diseases), Director of General Medicine and Refugee Health at Dandenong Hospital and is Chair, Personal and Professional Development for the MBBS undergraduate curriculum at Monash University.
Associate Professor Block has held National Advisory Council roles for Refugee and Asylum Seeker issues, and is a contributor to the recent RACP position statement on refugee and asylum seeker health
His main professional interests centre on a co-designed approach to refugee health and well-being encompassing health delivery, capacity building and research for policy and advocacy, and the application of these insights to the broader health service.
Associate Professor Block has developed innovative programs to increase refugee tertiary education participation such as the Hands on Health program, with Monash University, and medical undergraduate refugee learning modules.
