Mandy’s love for obstetrics and gynaecology began at medical school and led her to work in Leicester and Peterborough in the U.K. She trained in O&G at the Womens Hospital in Melbourne after residencies at the Alfred and the Royal Childrens Hospitals. Mandy’s ultrasound experience began in 1989 as a COGU trainee at the Womens and she became an Ultrasound Subspecialist in 1992. These years coincided with the births of her 3 children. During the last 28 years she have been heavily involved in the training of ultrasound subspecialists both at the Womens Hospital, and the Chairman of the COGU subspecialty and examination committees at RANZCOG. She was also instrumental in the establishment of the Nuchal Translucency program at RANZCOG and has worked with many government committees on provision of ultrasound services. Her area of special interest has been the fetal brain, particularly the recognition of the rapidly changing appearance during pregnancy, and detection of developmental brain abnormalities. Gynaecology scans now form about 40% of her expert practice, including endometriosis scans. She has a personal interest in Autism as her adult son is affected. She has been jointly involved in the establishment of two Not For Profit organisations. Current Patron: Learning for Life Autism Centre. Current President: Autism Behavioural Intervention Association. Outside of work hours she spends her spare time at the family farm at Glenburn and her glass studio. Hobbies – kiln formed glass, beef farming and her garden.
