CLINICAL INTERESTS General Paediatrics: Acute and chronic childhood conditions from birth to adolescence including developmental delay, growth and behavioural concerns, ADHD, sleep disturbance, unsettled babies, constipation, incontinence, asthma Infectious diseases: Common and unusual infectious diseases, recurrent fevers, hepatitis Travel health: Pre-travel advice for children (and adults) including travel vaccinations and prevention of malaria, infections in the returned traveller Immunisations: Childhood vaccines, immunisations for immunocompromised children Clinical pharmacology: adverse drug reactions, drug allergy, poisonings, drug interactions BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE Amanda Gwee is a General Paediatrician at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Melbourne and trained as both a General Paediatrician and Infectious Diseases physician through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
TRAVEL MEDICINE Amanda has worked overseas in Cambodia, India, Malawi and Papua New Guinea and has completed a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene through the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
She has expertise in travel medicine including pre- and post-travel vaccines, preventing malaria and managing infections in the returned traveller such as gastrointestinal and parasitic diseases, fevers and skin infections.
RESEARCH INTERESTS Amanda is an Honorary Fellow of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and is doing a PhD on antibiotic dosing in children. She has published over 25 journal articles and book chapters and is the editor of the 9th edition of the Royal Children’s Hospital Paediatric Handbook.
