Dr Alex Barnes is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. He has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and bowel cancer surveillance. Other interests include endoscopy, colonoscopy and irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr Barnes trained at Flinders Medical Centre and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, completing an IBD fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre where he currently practices, and has academic status at Flinders University. He previously trained and worked as a mechatronic engineer. Dr Barnes has completed a Masters of Public Health and is currently completing his PhD which examines the significance of sleep disorders in people with IBD.
