Dr Ales Aliashkevich is a neurosurgeon, specialising in the treatment of brain, spine and peripheral nerve conditions. His aim is to improve a patient's quality of life with the lowest risk and best outcome.
Dr Aliashkevich received the degree of Doctor of Medicine with a grade "magna cum laude" by the Rhine Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Bonn, Germany, in 1997 for the work in the field of epilepsy surgery. He completed his neurosurgical specialist training in Bonn, and was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) by the Specialist Training Authority (STA) of Royal College of Surgeons, United Kingdom. In 2008 he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Aliashkevich has accomplished a Cerebrovascular Fellowship in the Royal Melbourne Hospital and was active in neurosurgical research. He has published numerous clinical and scientific papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented at international meetings.
Dr Aliashkevich has worked as a Consultant Neurosurgeon in Wellington, New Zealand, since 2005 and was appointed as a Senior Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago, Wellington. He also undertook private practice at the Wakefield Specialist Medical Centre. He then moved to Australia and settled in Melbourne.
Dr Aliashkevich’s practice covers a broad range of adult and pediatric neurosurgery, with particular interests in minimally invasive and motion preserving spinal surgery, awake craniotomies for lesions in the eloquent brain cortex, brain tumours of the insular and medio-temporal regions, surgical treatment of epilepsy, vascular neurosurgery, neuroendoscopy, peripheral nerve surgery, neurointensive care and neuromonitoring.
Dr Aliashkevich is a member of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA) and AO Spine.
Dr Aliashkevich has a public hospital appointment at Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is fluent in German, Russian and Belarusian.
