Dr Aileen Traves was one of the first doctors to graduate from James Cook University in 2005. She undertook internship and residency at Cairns Base Hospital prior to undertaking her GP training in North Queensland. Her special interests include women’s health, adolescent health, paediatrics, community health and palliative care.
Aileen has Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, a Diploma of Child Health, a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and is currently undertaking a Fellowship in Medical Education.
Aileen is passionate about improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Aileen currently works in Kuranda one day/week, and teaches medical students at James Cook University three days/week. She is a supervisor for GP registrars and students.
When she is not working Aileen enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter, bushwalking, swimming and trying to look after her own health.
