Abhi graduated from undergraduate medicine at the University of New South Wales in 2008 where he won the RANZCO Ophthalmology Medal, the Australian Cancer Council Medical Student Scholarship, the NSW Rural Doctors Network Bush Bursary, the Advancing Australia Fairly Prize and an MDA Medical Elective Travel Bursary.
He subsequently completed a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2014 and achieved his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2016.
Abhi's medical interests include minor skin excisions, mental health, chronic disease management, women's health (including Implanon insertion/removal, antenatal care, cervical screening) and child/adolescent health.
In addition to clinical practice, Abhi spends considerable time educating both medical students and doctors-in-training.
Abhi is also a current examiner for the RACGP Fellowship examination and has published a number of Australian and international journal articles as well as one original book chapter. Furthermore, Abhi currently sits on the Victorian Medical Board and is also a Board Director of a number of small health services in regional and rural Victoria. He was appointed to these roles by the Minister for Health. Abhi's other roles including sitting on the RACGP Victoria Faculty Council, the RACGP Academic Council of Assessment and the RACGP Expert Committee for Standards in General Practice. Additionally, Abhi is an appointed director of private insurance company, Peoplecare Health Limited.
Outside of medicine, Abhi enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife and two young daughters; is a cricket enthusiast and is a perpetual over-indulger in gourmet foods. He is also guilty of spending a lot of his weekends "talking shop" with his two younger brothers, who are also both doctors.
In 2022, Abhi was recognised by his profession and his patients by being awarded the prestigious Victorian GP of the Year Award 2022. Additionally, Abhi was also the joint winner of the Australian GP of the Year Award 2022.
