Professor George Kannourakis originally moved from Melbourne to Ballarat with his young family during 1991 and commenced an Oncology Practice at Marion House located at St John of God Ballarat.

During 1996 outreach clinics commenced at East Grampians Health Service in Ararat and at Stawell Regional Health to reduce the need for patients to travel to Ballarat for reviews and some treatments. With the success of these two clinics, a third outreach clinic commenced at Wimmera Health Care Group in Horsham during 2006 and the clinics still remain a vital for delivery of services to the isolated towns in the Grampians, Wimmera and Central Victoria regions.

Over the years the demand for services conducted by Ballarat Oncology & Haematology Services meant that new premises with a day treatment centre was required. Ballarat Oncology & Haematology Services moved to our current location at the Ballarat Day Procedure Centre located at 1117 Howitt Street Wendouree during 2005.

Currently Prof George Kannourakis visits Horsham fortnightly, and Prof George Kannourakis or Dr John Sycamnias visit Stawell weekly.

From April 2013 Dr John Sycamnias will commence visiting Maryborough and Bacchus Marsh Outreach Clinics.

Dr Sabine Roithmaier, Dr Felicity Murphy, Dr Muhammad (Alam) Alamgeer and Dr Hongbing Cheng, all joined the practice as visiting medical oncologists in early 2013 and are available for consultations at Howitt Street, Wendouree.

A strong affiliation with St John of God continues with the doctors conducting daily ward rounds and coordinating treatments for oncology and haematology patients that require an inpatient stay.

Ballarat Oncology & Haematology Services has a strong research commitment supporting its own clinical trials department which employs a full time Clinical Trials Research Nurse to monitor the effects of trial patients.
