Niall Tebbutt is a Medical Oncologist with a special interest in the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. He undertook medical training at Oxford University (UK) and studied medical oncology in Melbourne. He subsequently undertook postgraduate studies at Melbourne University and Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research where he developed an interest in colon cancer biology. He returned to the UK as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden Hospital where he gained considerable clinical research experience including the design and management of Phase I II and III clinical trials.
Upon returning to Melbourne he has worked at the Alfred Hospital and Austin Hospital where he now heads up an active clinical research program into improved treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies. He is an active member of the Cancer Trials Australia Gastro Intestinal Group, the VCOG GI Trials Group and the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG). He has developed a number of novel clinical protocols for Australian patients, including 2 national studies in oesophago-gastric cancer and a large international phase III study in advanced bowel cancer.
