A/Professor Abraham is a practicing colorectal and general surgeon and an endoscopist at the Coffs Colorectal & Capsule Endoscopy Centre with admitting and operating rights at Baringa Private Hospital and the Coffs Harbour Health Campus .

He also operates periodically on Coffs Harbour patients at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney. His main areas of interest are colorectal cancer surgery, Fast Track Colorectal Surgery (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) Programs, day only gall bladder and hernia procedures, sphincter preserving surgery and minimal use of stomas (whether temporary or permanent) and capsule endoscopy. He is also proficient in procedures for anorectal conditions such as the Anal Fistula Plug and Botox injections for anal fissures. He runs a Biofeedback program at the CC&CEC in collaboration with Fiona OMeara (physiotherapist) for the treatment of bowel dysfunctions such as faecal incontinence and obstructed defecation.

A/Professor Ned Abraham is the Co-ordinator of Surgical Teaching at the Coffs Harbour Campus of the Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales.

In 2009, he became the first person to ever be promoted to the level of Associate Professor in the ten year history of the Rural Clinical School of the Faculty of Medicine, University of New South Wales.

He is the Supervisor of Basic and Advanced Surgical Training at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus and is a member of the NSW Regional Board in General Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

He has been heavily involved in the provision of cancer treatment in the Coffs Clarence Area and was quoted in the NSW Parliament. He is also a member of the Coffs Clarence Clinical Council that was established as part of the recommendations of the Garling Report

A/Professor Abraham graduated with Honours in 1986. He completed his internship and resident medical officer years in Tasmania and Darwin. He has since obtained the Degrees of a Master of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy in Surgery from the University of Sydney . His research interests have covered a very wide range of medical and surgical conditions including evidence based surgery, the link between smoking and the aetiology of ulcerative colitis, laparoscopic and fast track colorectal surgery, general surgery, endolumenal AAA repair and the methodology of meta-analysis of randomised trials and nonrandomised comparative studies.

A/Professor Abraham is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of its Colorectal Section. He trained at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney then worked as the Surgical Superintendent of that hospital for three years attached to its Colorectal Unit. He also spent two years as the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealands clinical research fellow at the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre of the University of Sydney. In 2004, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England through a nomination by its President.

He has published widely in peer reviewed journals including British Journal of Surgery, Surgery, Disease of Colon & Rectum and ANZ Journal of Surgery. He is on the Editorial Boards of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and The World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology and is a reviewer for the ANZ Journal of Surgery. He has been an invited guest speaker and has chaired sessions at national and international meetings including the Second and Third World Cancer Congresses in China (2009) and Singapore (2010) and the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (2010)

He was also a Captain in the Australian Army Reserve and saw active service in Bougainville with the Peace Keeping Force
