Dr Al-Freah finished his Bachelor degree in Medicine from University of Baghdad/Iraq in 1990. He moved to New Zealand in 1997 where he did his basic physician training. In 2002, he started his advanced physician training in Auckland, New Zealand before he pursued his interest in gastroenterology. Mohammad completed his advanced gastroenterology training at Auckland City, North Shore and Dunedin Hospitals in 2006 before he took a consultant gastroenterologist post at Hawkes Bay hospital in New Zealand.

Subsequently Dr Al-Freah completed a 5-year fellowship in liver disease with general endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound training at the largest liver unit in Europe, King’s College Hospital in London/UK 2007-2012. He also worked as a consultant gastroenterologist at Wirral University hospital in Liverpool and Chelsea & Westminster hospital in London/UK before he moved to the Gold Coast in 2013 to work as a Senior Staff Specialist at The Tweed Hospital.

Dr Al-Freah interests include general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease, management of patients with cirrhosis, alcohol and non-alcohol related chronic liver disease, viral (hepatitis B and C) and autoimmune hepatitis. His endoscopy interest includes gastroscopy, colonoscopy and endoscopic mucosal resection.

Mohammad also has research interest in end-stage liver disease and viral hepatitis. He has a number of publications in reputable medical journals and he presented his research in International medical conferences. He enjoys teaching medical students, junior doctors and nurses. He is recognised as an associate professor in Gastroenterology at Bond University. He received supervisor of the year award 2014 for his teaching and supervision of junior doctors at the Tweed Hospital.

Dr Al-Freah conducts general gastroenterology consultations at Pindara Professional Centre, John Flynn Medical Centre and Tweed Day Surgery. He is available to carry out procedures at Pindara Private Hospital, John Flynn Hospital and Tweed Day Surgery. Mohammad also provides an on-call and inpatient service at Pindara and John Flynn Private Hospitals.
