Dr. Coleman graduated with distinction as a dentist from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He trained in anatomical and oral pathology and completed a Masters Degree, registering as a specialist in the Branch of Oral Pathology in 1992.
In 2003 he obtained a Fellowship from the South African College of Pathologists and in 2007 received his Fellowship in the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
From 1993 until 2003 he was a specialist in oral pathology at the University of the Witwatersrand and in private practice in association with Lancet Laboratories, the largest private pathology laboratory in South Africa.
Dr. Coleman was a contributing author on the topic of ameloblastomas in the WHO textbook ‘Pathology and Genetics of Head and Neck Tumours’. At present he is a committee member of the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (RCPA) and was the lead author in the development of the reporting protocol for oral cancer by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Since 2005 he has held an appointment as Associate Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney.
