Frank Kimble qualified as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in 1991. He trained in the United Kingdom and in South Africa.

In 1998, he was appointed Head of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Royal Hobart Hospital, a position he still holds today. In addition to this, he is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Tasmania and takes a keen interest in research and teaching.

He regularly directs and teaches at surgical skill courses at the University of Tasmania and at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Melbourne.

Frank is a general Plastic Surgeon doing all aspects of surgery including Cosmetic Surgery. His passion is Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery. For the past 10 years, he has regularly travelled to the Philippines to help change the lives of children born with a cleft. In 2014, he spent his sabbatical leave in Fiji helping establish a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery unit for the region. He also produced a Plastic Surgery text book for junior doctors during this time.

He has published and presented in the fields of Cleft Lip and Palate, genital reconstruction, hand surgery, facial reconstructive surgery, microsurgery and cosmetic surgery. He was involved in research into the transmission of Devil Facial Tumour Disease with the Menzies Institute.
