Associate Professor Andrew Brooks heads up the Department of Urology at Sydney West LAHN, which includes Westmead and Blacktown hospitals. He has earned the title of Associate Professor from his contribution to urological surgery in Australia.
Most notably, Andrew led the development of urological cancer treatment and urinary stone surgery in Western Sydney. He also pioneered percutaneous renal surgery for urinary stones at Westmead and introduced extracorporeal lithotripsy and ureteroscopy.
Andrew performs microsurgical vas re anastomosis (vasectomy reversal). With a strong interest in urological cancer, he performs standard and laparoscopic surgery as cancer treatments.
Training
Andrew gained extensive microsurgery experience while undertaking research. He has applied his expertise to introducing the concept of multidisciplinary team management to treat urological cancer.
He also introduced brachytherapy (radiation) treatment for prostate cancer to Westmead Hospital as part of his commitment to excellence in multi disciplinary treatment of cancer.
Teaching Andrew has published many articles and has an ongoing interest in urological research. He has been awarded the prestigious medal from the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand for his contribution to urological surgery.
