Michael has endeavoured to continue to enhance the delivery of care to patients and loved ones attending NSO. This can be seen in the recent refurbishment of the rooms and the transfer to a fully integrated electronic practice system. Michael has also work tirelessly to improve care within The San and has been instrumental in many initiatives not the least being the establishment of a Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Team ten years ago, that has now reviewed over 3000 cases of breast cancer.
In 2006 Dr Andrew Parasyn joined NSO having trained under Michael’s mentorship at Westmead Hospital. Andrew completed post-fellowship training at Prince of Wales Hospital and continues work there as well as at NSO. He brought a special interest in endocrine (thyroid and parathyroid) surgery to NSO as well as having expertise in the management of breast cancer, melanoma and soft tissue tumours.
In 2014 Dr Nicholas Ngui was invited to join NSO. Nicholas brought with him high level training in the management of breast cancer and including new Oncoplastic techniques. Nicholas maintains a keen interest in General Surgery.
In 2015, Muzib Abdul Razak came to NSO to expand the service further with his expertise in managing complex Head and Neck cancers and also to provide support the work being done with melanoma and soft tissue tumours. Muzib had also been a Fellow in Surgical Oncology under the supervision of Michael in 2009 and 2010. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital.
The presence of four surgeons in the practice means that new patients with cancer and any problems with existing patients can be sorted very quickly.
