Dr Biggs is a neurosurgeon specialising in peripheral nerve surgery, microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia/hemifacial spasm, and base of skull surgery. Dr Biggs graduated MBBS in January 1985. He underwent advanced neurosurgical training at St Vincents, Royal North Shore and Prince of Wales Hospitals in Sydney. At the completion of his training he undertook overseas fellowships in Toronto, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and New Orleans, where he refined his skills in Base of Skull Surgery, Microvascular Decompression and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, working with household names in world Neurosurgery (Professors Sekhar, Janetta, Spetzler and Kline)

On returning to Sydney he took up a consultant Neurosurgical appointment at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital in September 1993.

Dr Biggs established the Neurosurgical Unit at North Shore Private Hospital when the Hospital opened in July 1998, and was Head of Department of Neurosurgery from July 1998 until April 2015. During this time the Neurosurgical Unit has grown to now have 9 Neurosurgeons performing 1400 operations per year.

Dr Biggs has been past Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, and Patient Care Review Committee. In April 2015 he was appointed as the inaugural Director of Medical Services at North Shore Private, Castlecrag Private, and Hunters Hill Private Hospitals. This is a part time role, and he continues to maintain a busy Neurosurgical Practice, having given up his public hospital appointment to allow for younger surgeons to join the department at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Dr Biggs now operates at North Shore Private Hospital and Berkeley Vale Private Hospital.

He is a founding member and Director of Sydney Neuro Oncology Group, and continues to undertake research projects and publish in Australian and International Journals.
