Dr Ravindra Urkude is Neurologist, specialising in Neurology, with special interests in Neuromuscular disorders, and Clinical neurophysiology.
He holds a DM DNB FRACP.
Dr Urkude has dedicated his life to pursuing his passion in Neurophysiology - working at specialist hospitals in Asia and the Middle East as a consultant for almost a decade and also completing highly specialised training in clinical neurophysiology. He studied an undergraduate dual-degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1994 and completed three years MD (internal medicine) in 1997 - both at Nagpur University. In 2003 he completed his specialist training in Neurology (Doctorate of Medicine) at Mumbai University and also a Diploma of National Board (Neurology) from the National Board of Examinations, New Dehli. Over the next 18 months Dr Urkude completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology (NCS/EMG, EEG) from the National Neuroscience Institute, Singapore before relocating to the Middle East in 2005 to work for the next five years in Bahrain Specialist Hospital. In August 2011 he moved to Australia with his family where he took up the role of Consultant Neurologist at The Townsville Hospital and was the only full-time consultant in this speciality establishing the service for the North Queensland community, the only one outside the South-East. He has now joined private practice in a bid to alleviate lengthy waiting lists in Townsville by offering more private neurological services - mainly in the area of neurophysiology by providing specialist skills in EEG, nerve conduction studies and electromyography. Dr Urkude is also a Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine at James Cook University and hopes his specialist skills will go some way to help those patients suffering from epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders and disorders of the nerves and muscles.
