Dr John Langford-Smith has worked in rural NSW as an Ophthalmologist for fourteen years and is new to Rockhampton. He is a meticulous general Ophthalmic surgeon with extensive experience in elective Ophthalmic procedures including cataract surgery, pterygia, plastics (including tumour removal), and surgery for glaucoma. He has an exemplary academic background with 20 years of tertiary study. In science, he achieved first class honours in Biochemistry at Sydney University, worked as an Immunochemist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney and completed Medicine at Sydney University. He finished a Masters research degree at Sydney Eye Hospital and specialised in Clinical Ophthalmology, completing his training in 2000.

As one of the few Ophthalmologists in Australia with formal scientific research training, John has a keen interest in innovative treatments and the Science of Ophthalmology. He was one of the first Ophthalmologists in Australia to utilise combinations of laser and anti VEGF antibodies in the treatment of diabetes, vein occlusions and other retinal disease. Dr Langford-Smith also has interests in macular degeneration and is looking into the synthesis of potential nutritional and immune treatments for this disorder.
