Dr Hilton has worked in private practice since 1970. He has been a visiting Consultant Ophthalmologist at both Princess Alexandra Hospital and Mater Children’s Hospital until 2010.

Dr Hilton has been Chairman of Ophthalmology Assessment Tribunal for Q Comp.

He is a lecturer in Ophthalmology at University of Queensland and is an Independent Medical Examiner for both Independent Medical Opinions and Medico Legal Consultants of Australia.

Dr Hilton is a member of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Royal Society of Medicine London. He has held the position of Director Royal Blind Foundation.
