The ANZAPS consults with the local, state and national governments of Australia to advocate for safe surgery for children and develop appropriate guidelines for delivery of paediatric surgery services. The New Zealand Society of Paediatric Surgeons (affiliated to the Australian and New Zealand Association of Paediatric Surgeons) liaises with the Ministry of Health to develop the national paediatric surgical service. Current projects in which the ANZAPS executive is involved include: establishing and improving educational paediatric surgical links and outreach with Asian and Pacific nations, revalidation strategies in Paediatric Surgery, improving access to Outreach Paediatric Surgical Services within regional Australia and New Zealand, and working with our surgical colleagues and stakeholders in enhancing paediatric surgery training for rural surgeons and surgery for adolescents.
