"My approach to counselling and therapy"
The service I provide is based on my experience working in private practice, NSW public health, training in evidenced-based therapies and my aim to work within a biopsychosocial frame. Therefore I aim to develop good working relationships with clients (and their family members where relevant), the treating doctor plus other health professionals.
I have a non-judgemental and patient approach and use a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness.
Specific areas of interest include: adolescent and adult psychosis, complex trauma, depression and anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety, OCD, panic disorder, agoraphobia & PTSD). I work frequently with physical health issues, (chronic pain, tinnitus, cancer) and trichotillomania/skin picking . An overview of my approach includes the following:
- Comprehensive mental health assessment, formulation and treatment
- Monitor physical health & medication compliance as needed
- Ongoing liaison with referrers
When away from the office, I can be found writing music, cooking, gardening or at the pool.
"Professional training, registration and memberships"
I have completed 6 years of higher education and 2 years of supervised practice. This includes a four year Honors degree in Psychology (UNSW; first class) and a two year Master of Psychology - Clinical (UOW). This involved training in the assessment, diagnosis, formulation and treatment of mental health problems across the life span. AHPRA registration is PSY0001817564 and I am member of the Australian Psychology Society and Australian Clinical Psychology Association.
